Gary Goodridge posted about hiring vets to protect schools. Here was my addition to that excellent idea. Someone can complain of the cost of hiring guards. That calls into question our whole economic system. I believe that the safety net should be something like this. Anyone can live free, with free room and free meals, in a safe and good place. In return, they must help. One thing they can do is guard schools. One thing they can do is protect neighborhoods. One thing they can do is bring meals to crippled people. They can clean up neighborhoods. They can do whatever their talent is. They can more than earn their keep. I dont think welfare or other forms of charity are the way to go. Dont necessarily give money, depending on the job done and the budget. Give a nice life. Give a good place to live and give food and clothing. Give a job. Give a reason to wake up. We need everyone. And a lot of people need a better deal than they are being offered.
