Gary Schultz Posted: Last night we went to bed earlier than usual, so I didnt find it odd that the dogs were restless so early this morning. So around 4:30am, my wife was awakened by one elf our four GSD, who all sleep within our bedroom. It was our eldest dog, Trooper, a two and a half year old female GSD. Trooper was found standing on the floor along side our bed pawing at my wife’s arms apparently trying to awaken her. When my wife didnt respond like she apparently wanted, Trooper hooked her paw around my wifes arm and started to pull my wife out of bed. Trooper was also whining non-stop. Liam our youngest started to whine also and then the other two GSD started in too! Soon we had a chorus of our four dogs whining and they wouldn’t settle down for anything. My wife thought the dogs just had to go outside so went downstairs to let them out, after bringing them in, my wife stated Trooper continued to act weird when she came back inside. Long story short, my wife then heard a high-pitch whistle-type sound, then heard something sizzling and then smelled smoke. It was coming from our back room. Our television set in our den apparently had a short circuit and started an electrical fire within itself. My wife immediately unplugged the TV and the fire burned itself out! Trooper remained at her side the entire time! When my wife went to go upstairs to tell me what had happened, Trooper remained by the TV for awhile longer, as if to make sure everything was okay. Satisfied, she then followed my wife upstairs, jumped in our bed and went back to sleep. I truly believe our dog saved us much property damage last night, if not even, she saved our lives! I knew from the onset of getting our four GSD, we truly had great dogs, and this one instance of many only proves it!
