Gary Shaheen, IVMF Director for Community Based Technical Support Initiatives participated in the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) National Convening - “Fulfilling the Promise: Academic Success for the Military and Veteran Child” held on April 2 and 3 in Washington, DC. He joined other distinguished state and national leaders in helping to create a plan that addresses academic needs for military and veteran children through the year 2020 in the areas of: Policy, Advocacy, and Academic Access and Opportunity. Ways were discussed to alleviate academic burdens on children of military families who transfer routinely from state to state and across school districts that are contained in the Interstate Compact on Military Child Education that is now signed into law by 47 states.
