Gas prices are the lowest they have been since 2010. Medicare is - TopicsExpress

Gas prices are the lowest they have been since 2010. Medicare is projected to cost, per patient, $1000 less annually in 2014 dollars. 650,000 more Illinoisans now have health insurance, reducing uncompensated care. Unemployment in Springfield is at 5.9%, the first time it has been that low since the first Bush term. Income-based repayment for federal student loans results in students never paying more than 10% of their disposable income for 240 months, and the remainder being forgiven. Medical bankruptcies have dropped to their lowest level in 50 years. Wages, in real terms, have finally frozen (as opposed to decreasing in value as they had in the first decade of this century). And the federal deficit is the lowest it has been since 2005. What more do people want?? Im independent politically. I like Republicans and Democrats, both. But lets give some credit where it is due. The Obama administration took an economy that was on the brink of collapse and stabilized it. He took a screwed-up health care system and attempted to fix some (not all--some) of the broken pieces. That cost Democrats political control of the House and potentially the Senate. He has taken ZE-RO guns away from anyone following the law (some states have enacted state-level restrictions, which are not his jurisdiction). The stock market is the HIGHEST it has EVER been. The U.S. Dollar is strong. Again, what more do people want? They want an anything-goes economic policy fed to them by large business interests as the panacea of what America-the-Beautiful is. Folks, dont break what is beginning to work. I had a split ballot this year when I voted. As much as I admire a lot of local Republicans, I cannot stand the thought of the GOP taking the Senate. Committees on health and environment will be gutted. And for the next two years, we will only read/hear about impeachment proceedings. Is that what you want your tax dollars going toward? is THAT fiscally conservative? Until the national GOP gets back to the middle (where most of us are), I will NOT support GOP control of either house of Congress. Right now, they are stuck up the behinds of wacko conspiracy theorists. Not good stewards of dollars. Get back to the basics: good government in limited areas. Limit what government does, and do those things really well. Slash-and-burn Tea Party policies do not a good government make!
