Gathering Lambs. Many Christians today who are familiar with the Bible, are several generations away from familiarity with any sort of farm livestock...especially lambs. Many of us may even be put off by the suggestion that we are to be lamblike. However, for those of us who have lived through the trials of sickness, grief, incarceration, or grave misfortune, the image of God as the one who gathers, nourishes, and leads us is exactly what we need. Our God who gathers is the reassurance that despite the apparent reality of our suffering, meaninglessness, and injustice He is ultimately caring, and seeks for us fulfillment and wholeness. *************************************************** O Gathering God; We sometimes wish that we were in charge.. ..to be shepherds of our own reality. But instead, we will turn to You for shelter, for comfort, for meaning. Amen.
