Gathering evidence? A word to the wise: don’t audiotape - TopicsExpress

Gathering evidence? A word to the wise: don’t audiotape another’s conversation unless you have the permission of all parties involved. Not only is pretending to be the NSA creepy, it’s also a third-degree felony and a breach of the Pennsylvania Wiretap Act. So, don’t do it! Unlike New Jersey, all parties to a PA conversation must consent to the taping of the communication. This is the reason why you are told, “for quality assurance purposes, your call may be monitored or recorded” when calling Verizon. Although the civil and criminal penalties are comparatively minimal for violations of this statute, its a headache that can be and should be avoided.
