Gatherings of salawat, knowledge and love at the residence of Sidi Shaykh Muhammad Awd al-Manqoosh. These sessions focus on the Hikam of Ibn AtaIllah, Hadith and Sira of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Each lesson has a section of the blessed Qasida Burdah rendered between readings. The Shaykh is all about humility. From his readings to his interaction with each guest in attendance, he is a true inheritor and teacher of Adab (refined character/good manners) . Adab is not necessarily found within books but rather from being in the company of those infused with it. The Shaykh holds some sought after and treasured Ijazat, some of which I was most fortunate to receive. The beauty of his chain of transmission is that it goes through a few female scholars including Sharifah Fatima al-Libiyah and Nafisa ‘Abdu l-Karim al-Misriyyah. Some of these awe inspiring women read and received Ijazat for the entire Sahih Bukhari and Musnad of Imam Ahmad, once again indicating that woman, from the time of Sayyidna ‘Aysha (May Allah be pleased with her) and even before her, were pioneers and leaders in spreading sacred knowledge.
