Gautam Deb warns ‘land syndicate’ Siliguri, 28 September: North Bengal development minister Gautam Deb has sent out a strong message to persons allegedly involved in the ‘land syndicate.’ A section of the people is trying to object to a mega tourist project here. I know them very well, but I do not want to divulge their identities. I want to alert them to stay away from this, otherwise they may languish in the jail, Mr Deb said. He was speaking at a programme organised to mark World Tourism Day at Gajaldoba in Jalpaiguri district yesterday. The ‘mega tourism project’ is a dream project of chief minister Mamata Banerjee. The project is being set up on a 208-acre plot of land. Though Mr Deb did not disclose the persons’ identities, many people, including the persons concerned, are said to be associated with the Trinamul-run syndicate in Siliguri. SNS
