Gaza 100 Water Challenge Even before the conflict that started - TopicsExpress

Gaza 100 Water Challenge Even before the conflict that started in July 2014, Gazas population was enduring water shortages with only 1 in 4 households getting running water every day. During a month-long bombing campaign, the destruction of water infrastructure left: • Nearly all of Gazas 1.8 million people with restricted or no access to water or sanitation services • Water and sanitation plants destroyed or damaged, causing raw sewage to spew into streets and contaminate precious clean water sources • About 90 million litres of sewage being discharged into the Mediterranean every day, causing environmental pollution and public health risks • As well as shortages of drinking water, the people of Gaza face disease and serious health problems because they lack water for washing, sanitation and hygiene Islamic Help is working with the Palestinian Water Authority to alleviate some of the problems of the Gaza population. With our Gaza 100 Water Challenge, we have pledged to help rebuild Gaza with a new water plant that will cost a minimum of $200,000 to construct and will provide clean water to nearly 10,000 people every day. The new plant will be at Wadi as Salqa where the water facility supplying local residents was destroyed by Israeli airstrikes. TO HELP MEET OUR TARGET, WE NEED 2,000 PEOPLE TO DONATE $100.
