Gaza is burning, a little less than two hundred lives have already been lost and the world community is yet to get a sneeze; what does it tell us? The genocide of civilian population in Gaza that Israel is currently engaged in, should make the family of nations hang its head in shame. Gaza is burning, a little less than two hundred lives have already been lost and the world community is yet to get a sneeze; what does it tell us? Perhaps this; might-is- right holds as true today as it was in the age of barbarians. If not to the flagrant violation of the human rights, the international community— read the coterie of five most powerful states of the world— should at least have woken up to the brazen violations of the international law. Their shameful acquiescence to the dastardly acts of Israel suggests that the international law is a tool in their hands that they use only when it comes to serving their own political and strategic interests. No wonder then, while such laws have time and again been invoked and cited as “justification” for arbitrary and selective physical interference by them into certain backwater countries, the violation of these very norms has been condoned when it has been done by Israel. The real purveyor of death and destruction has always been spared. Again, how shocking it is that while the so-called civilized nations under the garb of protecting the people in certain regions of the world from the “oppression” of their rulers have launched massive wars against the rag- tag forces in those countries, but the same nations have been mutely witnessing the genocide of a population crammed under a small space without even having the bare minimum necessities of the life. The heartrending pictures of the young boys and small kids breathing their last in the laps of their parents, have failed to evoke even a modicum of commiseration of the world community. Alas, the defenders of the peremptory norms that brook no derogation in the compelling international law have this time around thought it expedient not to speak obviously because it is one of their friends whose hands are drenched in the blood. Some countries have begun to shift the blame on the rocket attacks by Hamas ignoring the disproportionate force being used by Israel. Not a single person has been killed by the rockets of the Hamas in Israel. This certainly is not the way to secure the world peace. States would have to transcend the political considerations and strategic interests to secure peace for this world.
