Gday All, My connection to Australia started forty four years ago when I met my wife Sandra who is Australian born. My first visit was in 1976. It wasnt easy for me as a Palestinian exile to witness at close quarters the injustice and cruelty that the white colonials inflicted on the original inhabitants, the aborigines for the best part of 200 years. I still spend three months of the year in Perth Western Australia where my wife was born and now my daughter, her husband and new son are living. I had many a discussion on this sensitive issue with friends and acquaintances over the years. Some were sympathetic, some are still hostile, some indifferent some outright ignorant. So it was no surprise to me that successive Australian governments have been pro-Israel. Australia has more than its fair share of hardened Zionists, both Christian and Jewish who raise the flag of Israel before their own and, as such, are against us, the Palestinians. This is the case in all the new colonies, including the USA and Canada. So it was with joyful surprise to see that Mr. Bob Carr, the ex-foreign minister of Australia having a total change of heart from a position of the President of Australian Friends of Israel to the patron of Australian Friends of Palestine. At last, some good men and true are not looking the other way. Thank you Mr. Carr. Thank you Australia.
