Gee, I must be really smart because this story about Trisha Prabhu, reinforces my long held belief that we (especially teachers) should never make assumptions about how much a person has or could learn. I might add especially in light of standard testing which is designed to show how much a person or an animal has or could learn. NEVER. Thankfully the human brain and the brain allotted to animals is capable of proving the inevitability that such a blanket assumption about how smart we are will be grossly wrong enough times to undermine such assumptions about any brain, (even the brains of plants) can be plotted with any reliability in spite of statistical averages. i.e.: We should assume the person in front of us may not know or know or be able to learn in any of the types of intelligences as outlined in Howard Gardner’s excellent and noted book, Multiple-Intelligences. As with Anne Sullivan, the teacher of Helen Keller, when dealing with the mysteries of the mind we can say, trusting our positive instincts or heart, can be as effective as any common sense. In a way, science is all about disproving common sense. Trisha, a thirteen year old, has created something, a sort of system, that is highly effective in our efforts to modify a negative type of human behavior. That’s all she did it. Thank you Trisha, now it is proven how smart I am. :)
