Geek Trivia - The audio of the crash seen in the opening of classic tv series The Six Million Dollar Man was transcribed from an actual crash that occurred on May 10, 1967, at Edwards Air Force base in California, with the dialog having been rerecorded by series star Lee Majors as Steve Austin. The test pilot from the actual incident, Bruce Peterson, hit the ground at 250 mph and the aircraft tumbled six times. Peterson lost the use of his right eye as a result, which ended his career as a pilot. Peterson has gone on record as saying that he resented that his accident was replayed week after week during the opening of the show. The film footage seen of the crash on the show was actually from a separate, unrelated crash of an M2-F2 experimental lifting body that was used early in the testing which led to the development of the Space Shuttle.
