Geeking out on sleep and brain anatomy this morning as I watch a video that sleep expert Dan Pardi did for the autoimmune summit (autoimmunesummit/). We have an area in our brain, the suprachiasmatic nucleus aka the master clock, that regulates our circadian ryhthm based on the light our eyes receive throughout the day. It helps to synch all of the clocks that are present throughout our body tissues. These clocks help dictate & coordinate a whole symphony of processes that occur in our body - the timing of hormone production, immune inflammatory production that helps protect us from fungus & bacteria, etc., etc. Bottom line, sleep is good quality sleep is CRITICAL to our health as is getting outside and being exposed to natural light for a minimum of 30 minutes a day. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suprachiasmatic_nucleus#mediaviewer/File:Circadian_rhythm_labeled.jpg
