Geelani calls for shutdown in 3 districts Srinagar: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani Thursday called for complete shutdown in districts Srinagar, Islamabad and Shopian on December, 14 against what he termed manipulated elections. Syed Ali Geelani today distributed relief cheques worth Rs five lakh and kits containing essential commodities among 50 flood affected families. In a phase 14th of cash distribution to the flood victims, Geelani gave away cheque for Rs 10,000 and a relief kit to each of the more 50 flood affected families of district Kulgam and Budgam. In a statement spokesperson of the amalgum said till now Tehreek-e- Hurriyat distributed cash relief package among 700 flood-hit families. In his address to the flood affected families, Geelani while referring to Kashmir issue and human rights situation in Kashmir, said, we as a nation from all regions including Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan administered Kashmir, Gilgit, Baltistan, Poonch, Doda, Ladakh and Karnah are striving against occupation and together we should pursue our objective. Geelani added no doubt we need basic amenities like roads, electricity, water and employment but there is no logic that we should take part in elections and cast our vote for this as we are paying tax and it is the responsibility of occupied forces to realize their duty towards suppressed nations. Referring to human rights violations in Kashmir, Geelani said, that United Nations in its charter for human rights has declared that all people are born equal and share equal rights. It is the duty of the member countries to provide and protect the basic rights to their people as guaranteed in UN Charter, But contrary to this situation is worst and justice is nowhere prevailing and weak nations are denied their fundamental rights, he said. Geelani said that India is denying our fundamental rights and though Ban Ki-Moon in his statement has suggested the solution for Kashmir dispute through dialogue but the issue needs substantial support from world bodies. Geelani in his statement said that the minorities in India feel insecure and since 1947 India with its arrogance is denying their fundamental rights. Geelani said that though no doubt all member countries of UN including 57 Muslim countries celebrate this day with fervor yet hundreds of political opponents in Egypt were executed and similarly in Bangladesh, authorities are awarding death sentences to their opponents.
