Geelani continues to be under house arrest Briefs foreign journalists at his residence Srinagar, Sept 6 (KNS): Hurriyat Conference (G)chairman Syed Ali Geelani, who continues to be under house arrest, was again not allowed to offer Friday prayers today. In a statement a spokesperson of Hurriyat (G)said Geelani was never allowed to offer Fridayprayers in local mosque. “A large contingent of police is surrounding his residence and the visitors are subjected to harsh questioning and enquiries,” he said. Meanwhile, the spokesman said that amid government move for musical concert, the media men from West continue to visit Hyderpora residence of Geelani. “Media men from newspapers and broadcasting organization of international repute includingNew York Times, Washington Post, BBC, National Radio of USA and German television in their interview with Geelani asked about the latest developments and his stand with respect to Kashmir issue and music concert organized by German embassy. Delhi in a bid is hell-bent to mislead international community,” Geelani said. While briefing the world media about the ground realities he added that people of Kashmir with their sincere heart have always greeted tourists and visiting personalities and said that “we don’t keep any sort of grudge against any nor we have any enmity with a particular person.” In his comments over the Zubin Mehta’s musical concert, Geelani said that it was morepolitically motivated than a cultural show and added that India under this garb intends to convey the distorted picture as per its agenda. In his interaction with foreign mediahe briefed them about the grim situation prevailing in valley and said that “our nation is in a state of mourning and Delhi has turneddown our demand for mortal remains of Mohammad Afzal Guroo.” While expressing his dismay said that when entire nation is protesting against the forced disappearance of more than ten thousand youth and the innocents killed in Markundal and Gool incidents the “Indian authorities in collaboration with Germany are presenting the interpretation of the situation as per theirploy and portray the situation otherwise and as if there is no problem.” Speaking to Daily New York Times, Geelani said that although European Union supports “our cause for right to self-determination, however contrary to this German governmentdoes not understand its responsibility.” Providing detail with respect to excesses perpetrated by forces, Geelani claimed that Indian troops were involved in massacre of innocent people and while referring to brutal killing of five Europeans by Alfaran, he added that “it manifest a sufficient proof about authoritarian approach of India and added that Germany could have easily assessed the grim situation and human rights abuses in Kashmir.”
