Geelani hails Pak Army Chief’s remarks over Kashmir Srinagar, May 2 | (GNS) Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani Friday said the Kashmir remark of Pakistan army chief was ‘encouraging, expected and based on truth’. Terming Kashmir as the jugular vein of Pakistan, the countrys Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif on Wednesday said the issue should be resolved in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris and in line with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions for lasting peace in the region. Geelani said: It is the traditional stand of Pakistan government and they should not compromise with this policy at any cost. The octogenarian leader said ‘stability of Pakistan is very vital for the resolution of Kashmir dispute and for the prosperous Kashmir’. “We need a stable and stronger Pakistan. Pakistan is not only a country but it is the hope for the entire Muslim Ummah,” he said. While terming the reaction of BJP and Congress to the statement of army chief of Pakistan General Raheel Sharif as ‘ridiculous and unrealistic’, Geelani said: “The Indian rulers are running away from the ground realities of Kashmir. It is a deliberate attempt and the traditional policy of India to turn blind eye towards the reality of Kashmir issue.” The APHC chairman said: “According to the guide lines of two nations theory, which were never followed by India, Kashmir was a natural part of Pakistan, but India forcibly landed its troops on 27 October 1947 in Kashmir and denied them their right to decide their future.” India took the Kashmir issue to the UNO where 18 resolutions have been passed so far in favour of Kashmir’s right to self-determination. The pro-freedom leader said that due to the arrogance of power, Indian rulers have always denied our just demand and have tried to silence the peaceful and political voice of Kashmir by force. “The Integral part rhetoric is unacceptable to Kashmir people and it reflects the non-serious and insincere approach of India towards the peace in South Asia,” the 85-year-old said.
