Geelani thanks Pak for ‘choosing Kashmir over India’ Srinagar, Aug 19: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Tuesday said the decision of Pakistan to prefer talks with separatist leaders over India has vindicated their stand on Kashmir and given hope to Kashmiris that they were not alone in their struggle for right to self determination. “During my meeting with Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi today, he informed me that they were informed by Indian foreign secretary either to talk with Kashmiri leadership or Indian government,” Geelani told Rising Kashmir over phone from New Delhi. He said he was overwhelmed by Pakistan’s decision to choose Kashmir over India. “This has vindicated their stand on Kashmir. I am thankful to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for taking such a bold decision”. Geelani said Pakistan’s decision has strengthened the hope among Kashmiri people that they are not alone in the struggle for right to self determination. “It is a great achievement for Pakistan. They have shown to the world that Kashmir’s are not alone in their struggle,” he said. Hurriyat (G) chairman said his meeting with Pakistan High Commissioner was fruitful and he has assured him that all appropriate measures would be taken for resolution of Kashmir issue. “I told Pakistan High Commissioner that inclusion of Kashmiri leadership is must in any future talks between India and Pakistan. I also stressed on implementation of UN resolutions on Kashmir. I was assured that Pakistan will support all the peaceful means for the resolution of Kashmir issue,” he said. Geelani said they also discussed in length the upcoming assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir. “I told Pakistan High Commissioner that Kashmiri people will boycott the polls and nothing can dilute importance of Kashmir issue. I told him that during NC regime in the State, not a single prisoner was released while separatist leaders were continuously kept under house arrest,” he said. The Hurriyat (G) chairman said he expressed his disappointment to Pakistan envoy over Indian government’s decision to call off foreign secretary level talks. “It was an unfortunate decision and I specifically made it clear in the meeting that such actions of GoI have exposed their true communal ideology,” he said. Geelani expressed concern over the present political turmoil in Pakistan and appealed PTI chief Imran Khan and religious leader Tahirul Qadri to call off their protest
