General Manager-Mass Coastal Railroad The following position is being posted internally to all Iowa Pacific Holdings employees. External candidates are not being recruited at this time. This position involves overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Mass Coastal Railroad including all freight and passenger rail movements. Position Responsibilities: Monitor operations to ensure that employees comply with company safety and operating rules, policies, procedures, union agreements and governmental regulations. Promote a safe work environment through the development of safety programs, goals and measurements. Must be able to immediately respond to safety concerns as they arise. Build a positive relationship with employees, customers and public entities based on mutual respect and strong business ethics. Direct and coordinate activities in the operations, mechanical and maintenance of way departments and allocate the proper resources to meet operational demands and ensure on time performance. Analyze expenditures and other financial information in order to develop plans and budgets for increasing profits and reducing costs. Define and monitor key performance metrics and processes to improve efficiency and meet corporate goals. Identify and correct service issues to ensure service reliability and provide continuous improvement to meet customer demands. Effectively utilize performance management and interpersonal skills to coach, train and provide feedback to maximize employee potential. Collaborate with other departments to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals and objectives. Position Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Transportation or equivalent work experience. Eight to ten years of railroad transportation experience, including three or more years of supervisory experience. Detailed working knowledge of all applicable FRA rules and regulations. Experience working in both union free and unionized environments. Excellent leadership and communication skills, as well as analytical skills for reviewing costs and preparing budget reports. Time management, organizational and effective planning skills to achieve work deadlines. Ability to work outdoors and in a fast paced 24/7 operational environment.
