General Robert E. Lee has always been one of my heroes. I have a deep love for him not because I am from the south and he was a leader for the Rebs. He has always been more than that to me. He was a man with a big heart and a big faith and his care for his fellow beings was humongous. He was a great, great man. In my genealogy I have a Lee family and you know how it is, they all say were related to him ha ha. Well, its said in my family too that we are related to him but no one knows exactly in what way. Well, in my research of my Lee family in VA I can get way way back, but I cant see how we are related. There are many LEE lines in VA actually and there may be a connection found at some point but its probably so far back that our relationship would be very distant. The name LEE is predominant in my family. My Granny was Phalba Lee Godwin, she gave her two sons the middle name of Lee. Her grandmother was named Fereby Lee and this where my Lee surname comes from, Fereby married a man named Aaron Godwin. They were in Georgia but I can trace her family back to North Carolina and then into Virginia back into the 1600s.
