General’s accusations: “Inordinate delay in probe unacceptable” Srinagar, Sep 29: Expressing deep concern over the inordinate delay in getting the accusations leveled by General V.K Singh probed, the proposed ‘Third Front’ Sunday demanded that the matter should be probed by any Supreme Court judge so that facts would be made public. Addressing a joint press conference in Srinagar, State Secretary, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said that they are surprised the way State and Central Government has been acting as a mute spectator over alleged misuse of defense funds. “No strategy is being evolved to probe the matter and nothing has been done in this regard so far. The delay in probe is unacceptable,” he said. “The delay (by Centre as well as the State government) in probing the truth behind Gen Singh’s revelations and the misuse of the secret unit funds is unacceptable,” Tarigami said. He expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of action by Government of India and Defense Ministry after the leakage of the Army report that Gen V K Singh had allegedly set up the Technical Support Division (TSD) and misused the intelligence funds to overthrow the Omar Abdullah government in J&K. Tarigami demanded setting up of a time bound credible inquiry commission to be headed by a Supreme Court judge to unravel the truth. “We demand a time bound inquiry should be set up and a Supreme Court judge should oversee it to unveil the truth into the misuse of secret unit funds by Gen Singh and his subsequent hair raising revelations,” Tarigami, who was flanked by President Peoples Democratic Front, Hakim Muhammad Yasin, J&K National Democratic Front head Abdul Rashid Kabuli and Lok Janshakti Party Chief Sanjay Saraf, said. He also cautioned against interventions—covert or overt— by security apparatus in unraveling the truth behind the matter. “The importance of Gen Singh’s revelations can’t be brushed aside. People of J&K have every right to know the truth and the security apparatus should work within their circles,” said Tarigami. The revelations, Tarigami asserted have raised fingers and hurled accusations on the democratic process. He cautioned that any intervention in probing the truth by security apparatus would be dangerous for the democratic system here. “We would strongly raise the matter in the autumn session of J&K Legislative assembly starting tomorrow. In fact we are geared up to go for the target as whatever Gen Singh has revealed can’t be brushed aside,” Tarigami said. Tarigami dodged a question on the formation of Third Front, but, he, however said that 8 political parties have joined hands to create a separate group of like-minded people. (CNS)
