Generous Friends, Generous Neighbors, Thank you all for contributing to the success of Saturdays benefit for the Room One Fire Relief Fund. I wont disclose how much we raised — that announcement will be Room Ones pleasure — but it was a very healthy sum. A special thank you goes out to the following people for their extraordinary efforts: My dearest friend, Rick Dewbrey, who bought the meat, the buns, ketchup and mustard, and grilled about 100 burgers for the event. Ricky likes to work behind the scenes, but he deserves a big hand for his effort. He also donated two five liter bottles of delicious Chianti Classico Riserva to the shindig. The mans got a big heart. Fantastic, Ricardo. Then theres Diane Dewbrey, who hauled wine in from Seattle for the event, and then shuttled burgers from the grill to the bar all night long. She also officiated at the end-of-night donations tally. She keeps a very sharp pencil. Assisting Diane was Claire Bunney, who helped manage the flow of guests as well as counting cash and checks. Also, very precise in her reckoning and always lovely while shes doing it. D. Jay Lucas kept Rick company and assisted at the grill. He is a master of all he touches. Savannah Miller and her children Amelia, Gretta and Sophie cleaned and decorated the restaurant for the event. Savannah was liason between Tappi and Room One, nurturing what I hope is a long and productive relationship. Savannah is beautiful inside and out. Thank you. Chris Zimmerman of Vias Imports, my dear friend, donated a couple cases of wine; and Scott Murphy of Unique Wine not only donated cases of wine, including another five liter beauty, but he and his sweetheart Tanya wrote a beefy check to Room One. Thank yous wouldnt be complete without a rowdy hand for Kris Borgias, who put the bug in my ear for a celebration, and then played his excellent guitars all the night. Raising money was only part of our success Saturday night. We also saw neighbors and friends coming together in the first respite after the firestorm: people spending time together, telling stories of awesome destruction, loss and triumph the triumph mostly of spirit. Their lives are inspiring achievements of heart and soul. Love to you all. John
