Genetic Engineering Genetic engineering or genetic - TopicsExpress

Genetic Engineering Genetic engineering or genetic modification is the branch of Biological engineering where direct manipulation of an organism’s genome takes place. The goal is to add one or more additional traits that are not already found in that organism. For instance, today it is technically possible to make humans luminescent by implanting the luminous jelly fish genes into the human DNA. Genetic engineering along with Biological engineering has the capacity to improve life expectancy, develop the immune system, perfect physiology, cause major changes in intellectual and emotional capacities. The cognitive revolution made an insignificant African ape into an undisputed master of the planet due to minor changes in the internal structure of the brain. The second cognitive revolution is approaching and this will be due to Genetic and Biological engineering. Therefore conquering diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, HIV/AIDS, and other life threatening illnesses will be the challenges facing the Biological and Genetic engineering. The technical gap separating us from the super human beings has been erased. However moral and ethical issues remain. The negative consequences of Genetic modification include harm to children and future generations; loss of biological and cultural diversity; economic costs; and the degradation of social values such as acceptance of disabled individuals, respect for the value of human life and equality of opportunity.
