Geneva-2 conference on Syria may be called in mid-November – Russian Foreign Ministry The peace conference on Syria could be convened in Geneva as early as mid-November, the Russian Foreign Ministry said following talks of the foreign ministers of the UN Security Council member states on the sidelines of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly. “The foreign ministers consented to convene the Geneva-2 conference approximately in the middle of November. To this end, [UN/LAS Special Envoy for Syria] Lakhdar Brahimi should step up the work with the Syrian government, the opposition and other interested parties,” the ministry said in statement as quoted by Itar-Tass. The foreign ministers also agreed that the UNSC resolution on Syria “opened up a way to invigorate the efforts on the political settlement” of the Syrian crisis and that Geneva-2 will “give a start to the direct inter-Syrian dialogue in order to determine the future structure of the country.” M.D
