Geno posted an update about JOUSTING on the DemonWars: Allheart kickstarter. Worth sharing: Jousting is an important part of the classic Knight archetype, so of course we wanted to include a system for it. Like all of the new systems for Allheart, the Joust is designed to work as a solo game, or to integrate into a DemonWars campaign. Now let’s take a look at the Jousting system: For jousts involving Player Characters, the minigame uses the existing DemonWars RPG rules. Your character’s Riding Skill, Attack Rating, and Defense Rating are key. The joust takes a series of three passes; in each pass, each character must strike the opponent in the chest (Attack vs Defense). If struck, the jouster must hold her seat (Riding); if you fall off your horse, you lose the joust immediately! Here’s where it gets interesting: you have a limited pool of Balance. You can spend your Balance on any part of the joust – you can improve your aim and increase your Attack result; you can (and should, if necessary!) improve your Riding Skill Check result to stay on your horse; and you can use your Balance to deflect incoming attacks, preventing your opponent from scoring a point on the pass. But your Balance pool is limited, and doesn’t fully recharge between passes, so you’ll need to decide when and how to spend it. After three passes, if both jousters are still on their horses, whoever scored more hits wins. When two Non-Player Character jousters face off, we want the system to be as streamlined as possible, so such jousts can be decided with one roll of the dice. In this case, each NPC jouster has a “Joust Rating”. Simply subtract one jouster’s rating from the other’s rating, and you’ll get the “odds” on that joust; then, roll the dice and compare the result to those odds to determine who won the joust. Simple! The DemonWars: Allheart book will include a bunch of default jousters, for use in the solitaire minigame. These jousters will be matched up to cards in a deck (with a card left blank for the Player Character) – to hold your own jousting tournament, simply shuffle up a deck of standard playing cards, deal them out two at a time, and resolve the jousts. Remove the defeated jousters, and, assuming you win your own bout, shuffle the remaining cards and do it again, until only one jouster remains – a winner is crowned! As many of you will have guessed by now, the Knight Chevalier, Noble Jouster, Champion Jouster, and Black Knight backer levels give you the opportunity to create the characters we’ll be using for this jousting deck – Chevaliers are the 2-10 cards, Noble Jousters are face cards, the Champion is the Ace of Diamonds, and the Black Knight gets the Ace of Spades. So if you want a chance to get a blurb about your character tied to a card and placed in the tournament, you know where to go! I wonder how many peasants on pigs with broomsticks we’ll get… Cheers, -Geno Salvatore Bob. ps. Promising first day for the kickstarter. pps. We lowered the Knight Chevalier level by $50 - we werent sure where to set that and it looks better to us at the new level. ppps. We added an early-bird First to the Joust to the reward levels for those who want one of the joust deck cards to be their character. pppps. FYI, when you back a kickstarter, you can at any time change your pledge, reward choice, etc. You are not locked in until the end. ppppps. DemonWars: Reformation Core Rule Book remains available in hardcover or PDF at RASalvaStore, of course! ppppps. Obligatory LINK to the new kickstarter! https://kickstarter/projects/rasalvatore/demonwars-allheart pppppps. Fingers crossed...well, they were, but it makes it hard to finish the rewrite on The Archmage!
