Gentle first day of 2015, we took Jess to the dog beach in - TopicsExpress

Gentle first day of 2015, we took Jess to the dog beach in Fremantle, haven`t been there for such a long time. Then, having a cup of coffee at the Café just south of the beach a heartwarming experience happened. A young tall Aboriginal kid (could have been any race, just happened to be Aboriginal) about 20 stumbled in. He put his coat on the left side of the counter and was told to move it. This lady got up and asked him what he would like. She got him a drink and a large biscuit and something else and paid for it. It diffused a potentially unpleasant situation very quickly, he even wished her a Happy New Year. I was so impressed I thought I have to tell her and thank her. I walked up to her table where she was sitting with a friend and said, I don`t want to intrude but I want to thank you for what you just did. She responded I felt I had to take charge quickly. Then she asked me what my accent was. I told her it was German, that I have been in Australia for 44 years, that I just had been to Berlin and also to Rome to attend the canonization of the two Popes and a cousin who is an Opera Singer at the Berlin Opera. Then I thanked her again and gave her and her friend a little kiss on the cheek. So proud of myself that I did not intrude! Seriously, though, the lady showed a lot of courage. If anyone knows her (stranger things have happened), I would like to invite her for a free meal at Café Mueller. In hindsight I should have asked them whether we could join the for another coffee and get them one as well, I felt they might have said yes but sometimes you can push things too far, however, you never know if you don`t have the courage to ask. My first lesson for the year, follow your first instinct and then just put up with the consequence, the worst thing that could have happened is that she might have said no. She was quite humble and started to ask me about my own life, fatal mistake on her part, really! Anyway, thank you for making this first day of the year special!
