Genuinely saddened at the premature and untimely passing of Glyn - TopicsExpress

Genuinely saddened at the premature and untimely passing of Glyn Leach who was the long time editor of Boxing Monthly. I dont usually go in for grief junkie RIP type messages on Facebook but Glyn was the opinion I respected most on boxing and Im really gutted to hear of his death at just 52. Glyn had an amazing love for boxing, how he got into boxing journalism and made Boxing Monthly the most respected boxing magazine in the world (in my opinion) is a testament to the man and a great story. He always told the truth, or his truth about boxing, never bowed to pressure to sell a fight or say what a promoter might want him to say, unlike so many current boxing journalists who are merely extensions of various promoters PR machines. He hated that and was never afraid to lose his press accreditation for fear of putting someones nose out if joint. I really admired this. He rarely gave interview, shunned personal publicity but gave a great interview to Martin Hines on the Punch Up podcast a few months ago. I subscribe to about 10 boxing podcasts that churn out weekly episodes. Once I listen to them I then delete them, but this episode is the only one I never deleted and in fact only the other week was urging Kevin Byrne to seek it out. His honesty, depth or knowledge, clarity and brevity was evident in every sentence. Go and search for it on iTunes. He really wanted to put young journalists off taking up the career because he saw no, or at best a very limited, future in the professional but those that had the bug like him he really encouraged and was always very supportive of my work and that meant a lot to me. RIP Glyn. news.boxrec/2014/glyn-leach-passes-away
