Geopolitical Calendar: Week of Oct. 28, 2013 EUROPE Oct. 28: The second annual forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region will take place in Bucharest. Oct. 29-31: The World Islamic Economic Forum will take place in London. Nov. 2-9: NATO will conduct a military exercise, named Steadfast Jazz, in Latvia and Poland in order to test the NATO Response Force. Nov. 3: Kosovo will hold local elections. FORMER SOVIET UNION Oct. 28: Baku will host a joint Azerbaijani-Norwegian energy forum. Oct. 30: Presidential elections will be held in Georgia. Nov. 1: Russia is expected to resume imports of Ukrainian confectionery, particularly products from Roshen Co. Nov. 1: The speaker of Ethiopias House of Peoples Representatives, Abadula Gemeda, and Egyptian Deputy Foreign Minister Fatima al-Zahra Etman will attend the Third Baku International Humanitarian Forum, where they will exchange views and discuss a global issues. ASIA-PACIFIC Oct. 28: Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj will visit Pyongyang for talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Oct. 28: Cambodian and Thai officials will meet in the Cambodian border town of Poipet ahead of the International Court of Justice ruling on the contentious Preah Vihear temple dispute, due in November. Oct. 28-29: Indonesian unions and worker associations, including the Metal Workers Federation and Jakarta Labor Forum, may hold a nationwide strike. Oct. 28-31: A summit of armed ethnic minority groups, organized by Myanmars Kachin Independence Organization, will be held in Laiza. Leaders of the groups may agree to adopt a nationwide cease-fire. Oct. 28-Nov. 2: Delegations from the 12 countries participating in the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations will discuss intellectual property rights in Tokyo. Oct. 29-Nov. 1: Iranian parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani will visit China. Oct. 29-Nov. 3: The Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition will be held. Nov. 1-18: Japan will hold a major live-fire military exercise that will include 4,000 troops along with destroyers and fighter jets. SOUTH ASIA Oct. 28-Nov. 8: The Pakistani Senate will convene. Oct. 29: The Reserve Bank of India will hold its second-quarter review of monetary policy. Oct. 29: Former Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari will stand before a hearing in Islamabad on recently reopened corruption charges. Oct. 29: India will hold the next round of hearings in the Madras High Court on the controversial sale of offshore patrol vessels to Sri Lanka. MIDDLE EAST/NORTH AFRICA Oct. 25-Nov. 1: A Muslim Brotherhood-led coalition will hold protests against the coup that ousted former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi. Oct. 28: Irans deputy foreign minister and top nuclear negotiator, Abbas Araqchi, will meet with the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano, in Vienna. Nov. 1: Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki will meet with U.S. President Barack Obama at the White House. Nov. 1-8: An Iranian parliamentary delegation led by Iraj Nadimi will visit Thailand. AMERICAS Oct. 28-Nov. 2: The commander of the Pakistani air force, Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, will visit Brasilia. Oct. 28-Nov. 9: Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa will travel through Europe, visiting Russia on Oct. 28, Belarus on Oct. 31 and France on Nov. 6. Oct. 30-31: Brazil will auction off natural gas exploration blocs, mostly onshore. Oct. 31: The Bank of Canada will withdraw from Uruguay, citing domestic political and economic concerns. Oct. 31: The Colombian student union MANE has called for university students to participate in nationwide protests. Oct. 31: The head of the Bolivarian Socialist Workers Union, Wills Rangel, has called for a march in Caracas in protest of the economic war being waged by the Venezuelan opposition. AFRICA Oct. 28: The heads of state of Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya will meet in Kigali, Rwanda, to launch the single customs territory, a move that will facilitate the movement of goods from the port of Mombasa to East Africas interior. Oct. 28: South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit will visit Kenya and Rwanda. Oct. 29: The African Union will meet to submit its detailed position on the International Criminal Court to the U.N. Security Council. Oct. 29-30: African Union special envoys, mediators and other senior officials involved in efforts to promote peace, security and stability in Africa will meet for a special session in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
