George Galloway invites us to consider some alternatives to the way were going about quelling ISIS; Ive put his major points, in bullet form, to make things easier (he starts at 4:06 with these): 1) Try to involve the neighbours who all have an interest in not allowing Al-Qaeda or Isis in taking over Iraq, the worlds largest oil reserves. Reach out to all the communities (what we have now is a US led offensive, followed by the other countries that helped create the mess in the first place). 2) Infuse in the Iraqis that there is something still called Iraq, worth fighting for. 3) To acheive #2, bring in Iran, and get them to work with Saudi Arabia. 4) Release all political prisoners (many of whom have been held for over 11 years). 5) Re-legitimize the Arab nationalist forces in Iraq and try to make an alliance with them (the question is: Does the Iraqi majority really want to be run by a caliphate who was expelled by Al-Qaeda because it was too extreme? If this was done, it would not be too hard to marginalize ISIS extremists. 6) The problem with what is happening now is that people in Iraq are criss-crossing into Syria and back to Iraq, they become our allies while in Syria, but we are now bombing them in Iraq, and were giving them bombs when theyre operating in Syria and they have torn Syria apart. 7) This will be the third time that the US and other countries have decided to use this same strategy. Its not working. Its never worked. The conservative government is likely going to use this as a major election platform to tell us all how safe we are because of this air strike. Im a hell of a lot more worried about having to suffer lack of health care, EI benefits, and other essential services, while we spend more on military operations, and after this is all over, Ill be more worried about radical extremists targeting Canada than I will have been before. https://youtube/watch?v=-MLDgyntP58
