George Smith in response to a Better Together negative status regarding why Scotland should vote no: 1. The base will NEVER close with up to 6,700 personnel being based their after Independence - dont take just the present Scottish Government statement of a conventional naval base and all 3 armed services having their HQ there - the present personnel will be offered a direct transfer from the MOD (subject to MOD approval of their discharge) & I personally know a few who are waiting for this to happen. But also check out the Global Defense Forum which is run by both academics & ex MOD personnel who state the same if slightly different numbers for confirmation that the base will remain open not only in our lifetime, but our children & grandchildrens lifetime, scottishglobalforum.net/.../226.../stn_report.pdf 2. A Yes vote is not a vote for Alex Salmond & the SNP, as you would realise if you checked out many other news sights - including the nearly 5,000 breakaway Labour voters for Scottish Independence with numbers growing daily. Socialists for an Independent Scotland, Green Yes, Liberal Democrat Voters for Independence, Women For Independence | Independence For Women & many, many more in fact too many to list on this blog! 3. Never mind what you have heard from any BT blog about a future Scottish economy - go direct to Standard & Poor (1 of the 3 global credit rating agencies) which has given Scotland a Triple AAA rating even without oil - the oil is a bonus (incidentally higher then the UK present Triple AAA negative rating). Leading it to be between the 6th & 8th richest country in the WORLD! newsnetscotland/.../8806-credit-agency... 4. Oil - again go direct to any UK oil sight including the UK Governments own information while the peak of Scottish oil might be over - this is in part due to Westminsters £10 billion raid nothing to do with any oil running out. You do know when any major oil company says it is running out that 70% of the oil is still in the ground - what they mean is it isnt economical for them as they have to pump in water or other liquids to keep the pressure up in the extraction process which has to be separated afterwards again - so many other smaller companies are only too keen to move in and take over while the major oil companies start moving West of Shetland in the newly discovered oil and gas fields there which are expected to last well over 50 years. It might interest you to know that last year 20% of the worlds entire seismic vessels were in Scottish waters!! The revenues from Scottish oil are still growing despite the peak oil is over - £300 Billion to the UK treasury to date and rising each year - now stop a moment and think what that could do for an Independent Scotland! Believe me I know what I am talking about, I worked for the largest OPEC country for over 20 years & we havent even started drilling the Atlantic margin or the Atlantic Frontier in any great measure at all - this is where the next oil boom is coming from! I wont even bore you with the 300 odd years of Methane Hydrate that the U.S. geological surveys has shown is lying in Scottish waters around Rockall in the Atlantic - which the Japanese have only recently patented how to commercially extract. Scotland is awash with all forms of energy, not just oil and gas! businessforscotland.co.uk/westminster-takes.../ Additionally Westminster has earmarked a further 2,500 oil blocks in Scottish waters for future exploration and are holding back announcing this due to the referendum - they must think we are daft - the internet is a great place to find out everything you wanted to know! newsnetscotland/.../6908-scottish-oil-and... 5. I take it you havent even considered our £1.3 Trillion share of UK assets that we have already paid for as well??? businessforscotland.co.uk/independence-will.../ Do try and keep an open mind and dont believe all the hype you read in the unionist newspapers and the BBC - I expect you will see them change tactics as it becomes clear a Yes vote will prevail in September as can be seen by the poll graphs - even the bookies are cutting their odds again - they know whats coming. I hope this has given you food for thought & for your children and grandchildren
