George Washington was so impressed with Deborah Sampson that he - TopicsExpress

George Washington was so impressed with Deborah Sampson that he still gave her an Honorable Discharge after it was discovered she was a Woman and not a Man during the Revolutionary War. He was a man who believed service to ones country was more important than what the norms were and did not believe in labels. So I like to show that when people of character and conviction discovered something in the past, if that person had served with honor they were still given the same rights. Wow, how far we drifted from that concept. Washington and the ones who served him totally understood that it was about freedom in general and here was a Woman who had to disguise her gender so much that one time she was wounded and cut a musket ball from her thigh to keep an Army Doctor from knowing she was female and yet despite all of these things she hid, General Washington treated her with respect as a Solider and not as a Woman by given her the same thing everyone else who served him when it was over.
