George Watson Sr. is an original Tuskegee Airman. While growing - TopicsExpress

George Watson Sr. is an original Tuskegee Airman. While growing up as a kid, whenever we would go to visit him, I would usually bring whatever plastic model or project I was working on for him to look at. Boats, planes, cars, helicopters and everything in between. Over the years, as I grew older and eventually moved away from home and went to college, started a career etc. Those visits to see him with the usual ritual of sharing what I was working on faded away as well. Then in 2005 my father George Watson Jr., passed away. It took a couple of years for it to sink in, because although I wasnt around to visit my family as often, I just assumed everybody would, be here for awhile. So I began to spend more time with George Sr. doing what we always used to do when I was a kid, sharing my model building projects with him, just as his oldest son did with me since I was practically born. Well about a year ago, he asked me...How come you dont build any more of those boats you used to build years ago, you know the battleships and what not? So I started working on two large remote control models...a destroyer and an aircraft carrier to surprise him with. Then a few months ago, we were coming back from Joint-Base McGuire,Dix,Lakehurst and he said, You know, I just read in the paper yesterday about another of the guys passing away...thats like three in the past week! All the guys leaving, and so many already gone. Its a shame you know, they always report when you die, but nobody ever reports like when a guy makes another age or has an anniversary with his wife if shes still living, you know happy stuff. Then he just sat there looking out the window. So I started thinking and couple months later I was at his house and asked him, Hey what do you want for your birthday? He said, Man you know I dont want anything, Ill be glad if Im here, if we did some of that remote control stuff with the models that would be just fine with me. So a couple of days ago, we had a party and surprised him for his 94th Birthday. George Bryce Watson III
