George urges founding fathers to save PDP Former National Deputy Chairman, South-West, Peoples Democratic Party, Olabode George, has appealed to the founding fathers of the party to save the PDP from collapse. He said the founding fathers could not afford to keep quiet and allow the party they risked their lives to establish to disintegrate because of the inordinate ambition of a few people. George made the appeal during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos on Friday. He also appealed to all the committed members of the party not to allow the crisis to divide them. George said, "For the founding fathers of the party, it is time for them to rise up and save the party from the current furnace. The house will not collapse. The emperor cannot sleep when Rome is on fire. "Those asking people to come to Macedonia, do they have democracy in their own?" He appealed to the governors to sheathe their swords, saying grandstanding does not work in politics. He said the PDP was the only party in Nigeria with national spread, stressing that problems with the party could spell doom for the country. George said, "The crisis in the party is bothering Nigerians because the PDP is the only national party in Nigeria. "If the PDP collapses, this nation will collapse. It took a long time to have a party like this. We have gone back to the drawing board. We are talking with our people and we are optimistic that the crisis will be over soon." He said the current crisis dogging the party was surmountable, stressing that the PDP had gone through worse crises and had came out stronger. The party chief dismissed the opposition as a threat to the party, saying the PDP was not perturbed by any opposition. He said, "As for the opposition, we are like oil and water. They cannot be spun to meet. They can never meet. "The All Progressives Congress cannot work. The managers of the party have chosen a bad name. They have chosen the name of a defunct drug. PDP has the complete colouration of Nigeria from the swampy forests to the savannah region."
