Geotechnical Officer Petra Diamonds - Kimberley, Northern Cape Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants for the position of Geotechnical Officer. The incumbent will be responsible in assisting with implementing and coordinating geotechnical (rock mechanic) functions on the Mine. Tasks and Responsibilities: Plan and co-ordinate the implementation of designated geotechnical programmes within given standards/ objectives and targets Supervise and co-ordinate rock drilling, rock testing and monitoring of development projects Provide assistance with ground water management by monitoring hydrogeological instrumentation and maintaining the relevant database. Undertake Geotechnical/Geological plans and sections as appropriate Install specialist monitoring instrumentation Analyse and interpret collected data and produce summary reports Maintain Geotechnical records/statistics and advise line managers of relevant deviations Ensure adherence to Security and SHE policies and procedures and compliance to Company policies, procedures and legal requirements Minimum Requirements: B Sc Hons, B Tech or National Diploma in Geology/Engineering Geology/Mining Chamber of Mines Certificate in Strata Control Blasting Certificate for Scheduled Mines – an advantage 3 years Geotechnical/Rock Mechanics experience Valid driver’s license (EB/08) Computer literate (MS Office Suite) Previous experience within a relevant mining discipline would be beneficial Other Skills/Competencies: Good verbal and written communication in English Knowledge and application of Geotechnical/Geological equipment and principles Good judgment skills Mining and Geological skills Analytical and problem solving ability Geotechnical/Geological computer skills Knowledge of Safety, Health and Environmental protocols Kimberley Underground Mines JV is an equal opportunity employer.
