Get A Game Plan! NWS-Shreveport: Parts of the region may see a brief window of light sleet and/or freezing rain after midnight Wednesday night, which could linger throughout the morning New Years Day morning. Colder and drier air has built south into the region earlier today, with much below normal temperatures expected areawide over the next few days. Meanwhile, a strong upper level storm system over southern California will begin to drift east into Arizona Wednesday, which will send an increase in elevated moisture over the area late in the day and especiallyWednesday night (New Years Eve night). Areas of light precipitation will develop and begin to move into East Texas after midnight Wednesday night. Precip types: Areas of light rain may become mixed with light sleet, but depending on surface temperatures at which time the precipitation moves in, light freezing rain will be possible over areas with surface temperatures at or slightly below freezing (32F). Any sleet that falls with temperatures above freezing will quickly melt and not cause any issues. Where and When: Should this occur, this would fall generally north and west of a Tyler to Mount Pleasant/Dekalb line between 12am-6am Thursday...and north of a Mount Pleasant Texas to Fouke, Stamps, Rosston and Camden Arkansas line between 6am-12pm Thursday. Impacts: Should be minimal and brief, and highly dependent on surface temperaturesThursday morning. There is a little higher confidence that subfreezing temperatures will occur near the onset of the precipitation closer to the I-30 corridor of Northeast Texas and Southwest Arkansas. Should this occur as the precipitation moves in, a light glazing on bridges and overpasses will be possible through 12 pm Thursdaybefore temperatures climb above freezing from south to north. Afterwards, the air column and surface temperatures should climb above freezing areawide, such that periods of a cold rain will fall through the remainder of the day. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts and weather conditions for any changes to this developing weather system.
