Get Cardio! It’s Monday and time to rev up your engines. How are you trainers? This week, in preparation for healthy heart month, we want to make sure you help your clients to a great start. So, here are a few reminders and tips on effective cardio training we hope youll find useful. Remember to implement an effective stretching plan to compliment your cardio routine before you get started. What is cardiovascular training? Cardio is defined as movement that increases your heart rate and improves blood flow and oxygen uptake. If you want to optimize on heart health and conditioning your body to burn more fat as fuel, it’s important that you understand a few key principles: -learn to recruit both red and white muscles (think of marathon runners versus sprinters); -know your heart rate; -learn the difference between fat-burning cardio versus high-intensity; -choose the cardio selection that best serves your clients’ body type; Today’s NAFC quiz asks which of the following low-impact activities would be appropriate for a client dealing with joint issues? a. swimming b. walking hills c. elliptical trainer d. light jogging Be sure you consider a person’s age, fitness level, goals and body type, and remember—if your client has hit that plateau, it’s probably time to change it up!
