Get a Piece of the Action on International Day of Persons with Disabilities On December 3rd people across the world will be invited to help increase participation and inclusion for people with disabilities. As part of this international drive Halo Leisure is hosting two of its own FREE events offering demos, coaching and ‘have-a-go’ sessions in a range of activities for anyone in our county who wants to explore their options in sport and benefit from some professional advice and guidance. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is organised by the United Nations and recognises that more than 1 billion people or 15 per cent of the world population are living with disabilities - the world’s largest and most disadvantaged group. While so much change for good has happened in the UK, we know people with disabilities still face physical, social, economic and attitudinal barriers that exclude them from participating fully in sport and leisure opportunities so many of us take for granted, says Holly Penwarden, Healthy Lifestyle Co-ordinator. Halo offer discounts for people with disabilities. At Halo were really proud of the work we do with people with disabilities and the difference they say it makes to them. Were also proud to see so many of our local Paralympians use our facilities and they will be joining us on this day to meet people in the local community, says Holly. This is one small event thats part of a global network of events, but we really believe sport can open doors to other things - friendships, fitness, self confidence and more - and we hope that people living with disabilities in Herefordshire will come and join us to mark this special day, and try out some new activities at the same time. Hereford Leisure Centre 12noon 3.45pm Football Sessions kick off at 12 noon Followed at 2pm by Cricket Drop in sessions throughout the day: Bokwa, Boccia, Interactive Dance Mats , Trampolining, Seated Volleyball and Racket Sports. Bridge Street Sports Centre, Leominster 12noon -3.45pm Cricket is starting the proceedings at 12noon Followed at 2pm by Football Drop in sessions throughout the day: Interactive Dance Mats, Boccia, Seated Volleyball, Zumba Gold and Tennis/ Racket Sports.
