Get informed on bond proposal To the Editor: Dear Community Neighbor, On November 5, 2013, a school bond proposal will be brought before us the voters that impacts the future of Spring Lake Public Schools. OCT 28, 2013 We will be asked to consider a $59.8 million bond program to fund: · New elementary school; · Enhance district-wide technology · Upgrade the Intermediate, Middle and High Schools to meet current programming needs · Upgrade athletic fields · Implement energy saving measures · Replace furniture / purchase buses · Allow for essential improvements to assure the health, safety and operational efficiencies of the buildings This $59.8 Million bond increase for an aver $120,000 homeowners increases our property taxes · $34 per yr. · $2.83 a month Approximately A great investment for the future of our children and community. A Win Win Proposition in our opinion! Every one of the items listed is beneficial to our children and our community. Instead of being short sighted, we as a community need to look at the big picture and long term Benefit & Savings this bond offers. At some point all of these items requested will need to be done, so by acting now to ensure Spring Lake Schools can move forward, allows for a cost savings down the road. As active parents, with a child in high school, our child will not fully benefit from all of the updates in the schools, but we as a family will certainly benefit from all this bond proposal brings to the community! We are all concerned about the value of our homes and the desirability of our community to business and future families. Strong schools make for good neighborhoods and build strong communities! I hope that you will join me, and many others in our community, in supporting this bond proposal to maintain the quality of our school district. Your YES Vote will make it possible for our district continue their commitment to educational excellence as well as strengthen our “small community.” For anyone whom does not fully understand what is at stake, we encourage you to attend many of the informational meetings and ask questions and come with an OPEN MIND - WE DID and it did make a difference !!! — Jack and Sonja Denning, Spring Lake
