Get set for property ownership card Keep Documents Ready For Checks TNN Bangalore : This could well be the best thing to happen for lakhs of property owners in Bangalore an all-in-one property card.To curb duplication of khatas,the government has finally embarked on the Urban Property Ownership Record (UPOR) project. This card will be the authentic property ownership document and itll have all the details of documents such as khata,tax receipts,etc.Once in place,no registration process can be undertaken without producing this card.Malleswaram,Yeshwantpur,Rajajinagar,Jayanagar East,Siddapura and Yediyur are some areas covered in the first phase of the project. Tenders have been floated to undertake surveying and property document verification process for properties in 50 wards of Bangalore.Within a span of 90 days,project staff will be knocking on the doors of Bangaloreans to verify property documents before issuing property cards. KV Rudresh,joint director,department of survey settlement and land records,told TOI that the bids will close on October 18.Soon after the final bidding,well issue work orders to the selected agency to undertake document verification of properties in 50 wards.The remaining wards will be taken in upcoming phases of the project, he added. Rudresh said the ground work for the project may begin within 90 days.Well issue notices to all property owners in the selected wards to be ready with ownership documents of their properties.Well demarcate property location and measurements will be done using GIS technology.Once the documents are verified,the department will issue a draft property card (PR) for which the owner can raise objections,if any.Only after that will we issue a final property card, he added. As per the department estimates,Karnataka has 2.75 crore properties of which only 75 lakh are in rural areas and the rest in urban zones.Bangalore city accounts for over 20 lakh properties (of the total figure).The project is already under implementation in Mangalore,Bellary,Mysore,Hubli-Dharwad and Shimoga in the PPP mode.
