Rising from busking on Chicago streets to enchanting global audiences, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble employ climatic orchestration and contagious musical riffs to find a common area between hip hop, experimental jazz, and funk. Their discography includes over 18 releases and numerous collaborations with the likes of Tony Allen, Mos Def, the Gorillaz, and their father, jazz legend Kelan Phil Cohran. In 2011 Prince invited Hypnotic Brass Ensemble to perform with him at Malahide Castle in Dublin. For their Southside Music Series at the Promontory Hypnotic will be bringing in some of their friends and collaborators from around the globe to sit in for featured guest spots. The premiere guest artists are the legendary De La Soul, the eclectic hip hop trio who revolutionized the genre with their 1989 debut 3 Feet High and Rising, and who have continued to be some of the most fascinating voices in contemporary music.
