*Gets the UKCH Soapbox out from under the stairs and dusts it off...* Uh oh. I feel a rant coming on! There were over 11k likes on the lovely note yesterday from the two female PCs who dropped the drunken young man home. This was followed by several inbox messages of support - we thank you all! Now, for the Doubters and Haters out there... 1) It must be fake - cops arrest everyone/theyre all bad/dont believe it etc etc. Let us point this out. Police do this DAY IN - DAY OUT. Mispers - get taken home. Drunk students (who arent rude) - get taken home. Minor domestics (i.e. arguments where one party has been thrown out/needs to calm down) - get taken to another address. Occasionally, on the coldest and wettest nights, homeless people get picked up and taken to a shelter or somewhere warm and dry. Happens all the time. However, its normally 0400 hours when youre tucked up in bed. 2) I pays my taxes I do. Fight crime instead! Boys and girls, we ALL pay taxes. If youre in dire need or come under one of the circumstances above - youll quite possibly get a lift too. 3) WHAT IF he falls over AND DIES? WHAT IF he chokes on his own vomit AND DIES? WHAT IF he strains too hard taking a wee during the night AND DIES? Heres a crazy one. WHAT IF he simply doesnt DIE? EVERY TIME you set foot outside your door you could get struck by lightning, hit by a car, murdered by a stranger or choke on a biscuit. You COULD DIE! Does that mean you never go out? No. Rubbish. This is everything thats wrong with the country. What happened to common sense and looking out for each other? 4) Police are all corrupt. They lie. They didnt help me. Usually stated by those who have found themselves on the wrong side of the law. If not - complain. We know many Police Officers who will tell you that even the most minor/stupid/spurious complains are treated like a murder investigation against police Officers. That is partly a credit to PSD. (Honestly!) If no-one will take your complaint then youre simply in the wrong. 5) He shouldve been taken to hospital. No he shouldnt. If YOU were rushed into hospital in pain and agony would you like to hear that all the beds are full waiting for harmless drunks to sober up? Not a chance!! 6) Why didnt they arrest him for D&D? They arrested me! Hm. Tough one. Lets clarify. Its Drunk and DISORDERLY. Theres the kicker! Sit down and be honest with yourselves. The conversation probably went: Oh! Gis a lift ome will you? Ive spent all me money. You shouldve kept enough for a taxi... Well I avent. And its your DUTY to make sure I gets home safe. Innit? No. Its actually not. Its your own duty. (Walking off) I pays your f**king wages. Usually followed by an Excuse me? and then more swearing with renewed vigour. No. That wont get you a lift home. Yes. It will get you a night at Casa Del Policio Station. (Made that up.) 7) (And finally!) Wow! Ooh! Gasp! I never knew the Police were nice/human/not robot scum pigs! Welcome to UK Cop Humour! If you dont troll we welcome you with open arms. 99% of our fans are friendly and you will very often find your questions debated and answered on various threads. Also, if youre that shocked - you obviously havent scrolled back through our wall posts. Please do! Police Officers are normal members of the public in uniform - and normal members of the public are the eyes and ears of the Police. Were all on the same side - against scumbags, neer-do-wells, and those that seek to do us harm. Ordinary people who save lives, reunite families and do a thousand other things youd never dream of.
