Getting Home Safely ....CFMEU officials regularly go on sites that break every rule in the book when itcomes to safety. They deal with employers who think its their right to do whatever they like. They cut corners, take risks, ignore safety laws and they wear this attitude with a badge of pride. They can play cowboys to their hearts content for all I care, except that theyre actually playing with other peoples lives – workers in the industry whose health and safety its my job to protect and defend. This is not merely academic. It is our members who find their workmates after a fatal accident and have to live with the trauma of what they can never forget. It is the grieving wives, children, parents and friends whose loss drives my quest for the highest standards of safety.
