Getting What Youre Worth has been achieved again and again all around the world. Confidence plays a good part in it. And some of that confidence comes from looking at what you do and how you do it from the outside. Its sometimes hard to be objective about something that you do well, and have done for some time. For those who are new to this idea and/or are trying to put up your rates, try this: Write down all that you do and provide (services, equipment, features, and benefits). Make a list. Compare equipment to what people routinely rent or hire similar equipment from a hotel, and jot down some prices for just equipment. Then think about all the other things - like music programming and mixing, microphone work, and any other benefits you provide. Place a value on those things - each of them. Dont worry about what other DJs charge. Just get an objective look at what you do and provide, and its inherent value. Then cross off the list everything that others in your market provides. Whats left are the things that make you unique. Place a value on your uniqueness - what people cant get from anyone else. Add it up and start working with it. As you work through it, youll gain confidence and the skills needed to convey that worth to others.
