Getting a pet, whether a cat, dog, rabbit etc is a very serious commitment and humane society, spca etc do not recommend giving pets as gifts. Although the emotions and looks on the faces of the recipient seems well worth it at the time, you are looking at up to 15 years of your life being fully committed to this gift. The rescue groups get so many of these animals who cannot be cared for by the people who receive pets as gifts. Its not the thought that counts when your dealing with a live animal.. Think twice about surprising someone with a 15 year commitment.
