Getting on with Miles The Autobiography; it is quite enthralling - surprisingly so, because it is all written in an oral, street talk kind of style. Miles Davis is a great storyteller (may his soul rest in peace), not only stylistically speaking, but also as a narrator of history. His is a poets take of music, relating in everyday words what perhaps can only be told in technical jargon and those golf sticks that characterize notation. He possesses a novelists sense of apprehending history - I wonder if anyone has made a film out of the book - like Eastwood did in Bird. I am halfway through and it is an utterly good read, with many funny moments to boot. It is black history told with a black voice.
