Getting out of injury: I figure this might be a good story for people dealing with injuries specially if you have reach the 60+ age group. I ran the NY Marathon last year and I was fine the next day, then ran the NYRR half in January, the Cherry Trees in Prospect Park in February and finally the Coogan. The combination Coogan and Speed work on the track basically stop me from running with pain in my left knee. I went to the doctor, did PT and basically stop running all together for months because my knee would be swollen after a run. Some months ago I had Orthovisc injected in the knee, four sessions once a week, at the end not much of an improvement. I went to the doctor again and it was decided that I would have Arthroscopy done before Thanksgiving. Talked to my PT and she advised to postpone the Arthroscopy and give a chance to my knee to improve and start running a bit more. I started running again 4 weeks ago, no stamina and no speed (around 11 minute pace), 2nd week the same but somehow the results seem to get better, last week the pace was (9:30/9:45), this week (9:00/9:30), today I actually did a sub 8:00 mile, I could hardly believe it! Right now I am sticking to a 20 miles a week running agenda, no speed work and no hills repeats until I see things getting better. So the main reason for posting this is if you are my age and injured think positive and work you way out of the hole slowly, do not rush. I also think that it is important to keep exercising while you are injured, I started biking and did as much as possible. A few months ago I thought I would never run again, now I am planning 2 races and there are going to be our club races, the Harrys Handicap and the Cherry Tree.
