Getting to know Marian Rose December 10, 2014 BY HERBERT VEGO WHILE we were at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol yesterday, we saw people from all walks of life enlisting for the opportunity to donate blood there and then. It was a blood-letting activity being conducted by a humanitarian organization for the benefit of patients needing blood transfusion. The organization is the Marian Rose World Mission. Based in New Jersey, USA, it is manned by Filipino women whose self-imposed mission is to provide nutritional, medical and surgical assistance for the less fortunate Filipinos here in the Philippines. Its Ilongga president, Dr. Cristina Garcia-Pamaar, is a certified anesthesiologist at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. With the assistance of her two sisters – Nancy Garcia-Gourishankar and Marilou Garcia-Villareal – and Iloilo-based nurse Victoria Garcia, the organization has set up an office in Molo, Iloilo City and a consultation space at the out-patient department of Saint Paul’s Hospital. In anticipation of a two-week surgical-medical mission in pre-arranged venues in Iloilo and Guimaras in the first two weeks of January 2015, Marian Rose has fielded doctors, nurses and other medical personnel for whatever humanitarian activities they deem urgent. Between November and December this year, its Iloilo-based workers have, in the past two months, been conducting preventive medicine seminars and feeding programs for indigent children. According to Allan P. Vidal, photo-journalist of Health & Wealth magazine, he personally covered Maria Rose’s whole-day launching of nutrition and anemia reduction program for mothers and children in Barangay So-oc, Arevalo, Iloilo City on November 12, 2014. The New Jersey based officials of Marian Rose, including its president, Dr. Cristina Garcia Pamaar, are arriving in Iloilo City on Jan. 3, 2015 for a series of humanitarian activities, including a three-day (Jan. 6-9) surgical mission for indigent women at the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan town. These surgeries are for mastectomy, ovarian cyst removal, uterine myoma and cervical prolapse. A bonus activity is “Project Share-a-Book.” They will be giving away books to elementary and high school students in underprivileged barangays. *** Allan Vidal has contributed the following basic steps you can take to help heal your body and achieve optimal health: Eat organic foods. These contain less of the toxins that are often found in supermarket food. Eat plenty of greens. Green vegetables are filled with nutrients that help the body stay healthy. Eat vegetables that contain sulfur compounds. These include onions, mushrooms and cabbages. Eat fruits and vegetables of many different colors. Each pigment represents a different type of antioxidant. Eat grass-fed meat and fish. These contain healthier fats than conventional meats. Eat seaweed a few times a month. Seaweed contains iodine for your thyroid and other crucial nutrients. Eat organ meats a few times a month. These are unique sources of important vitamins.
