Getting to know new clients and horses is so inspiring. Yesterday - TopicsExpress

Getting to know new clients and horses is so inspiring. Yesterday I had an appointment with some horses who are starting their journey, along with their owners, to a more natural way of life and hoof care. We talked and talked, the clients asked great questions and the energy was of pure enthusiasm and commitment. I knew how desperately these hooves needed natural hoof care. And I was so energized by the commitment of the owners who were so concerned about every sign of distress I pointed out in the hooves. They cringed and worried. The horses sighed and lowered their heads with each step of the process. The loosening of the shoe clips, the pulling of the shoes, the natural trim that would allow the healing to begin immediately. The horses were not worried one bit. The owner even noted the moment horse glanced at me with a look that could only be described as relief or perhaps gratitude. I see that look often but to have it noticed by an owner makes it more special. Horses are not worried about going barefoot. They do not hope for a shoe to be reapplied. They do not cling to the deformed state their hooves are in from years of misguided trimming and shoeing. They are ready to heal. Always. Certainly nobody intended to cause them harm. Yet, in a moment I can clearly understand the story of a horse whose performance came to a halt. Career ending behaviors emerged and turned an animal so full of beauty and talent into an unwanted object. Looking at the hooves, so far from the realm of natural, so long, so confused and so unable to be what the needs them to be...I understand. A horse cannot dance or leap in clown shoes. When no one identifies this the horse simple quits. He simply, physically, can not longer do it.
