Getting water is a huge problem. Over the weekend I met with all the men and women in the small village near where the mission house is being built, my neighbors... 12 houses and thirty-some children. Currently, each woman walks 6km to the borehole to fill and carry back a 20 liter container - carried on her back with a thick strap on her forehead. She will do this 2 or 3 times every day, depending on how many children are at home (2 homes have 7 kids!). So weve hatched a plan that will require us to work together, but if successful, will provide water for all of us. Ill be looking to buy 2 donkeys this week and a cart. Each day, 2 of the 12 women will take the donkey and the cart to the borehole, fill up 20 containers of 20 liters and bring back water for everyone. Two trips. The next day, 2 different mamas take the donkey and cart to the borehole and bring back water for everyone. Etc etc. It will surely require us all working together and doing our part...but just maybe....
