Gezi Park in Istanbul Comment below is from a friend with well over 20 years in Turkey. On Thursday (today) , Erdogan called foreign and local news media coverage “immoral and misleading.” Is he saying that the actual video coverage of the reactions of the protestors and the police are not real .. they are imagined or edited? Nobody buys that! See the one Reader Comment below the article .. he explains it well. I have seen the same photos from Turkish CNN and CNN International with two separate and opposite descriptions of events. It was like watching Russian news. “They first tell us to go home, and then they present the idea of the referendum?” asked Bora Ekrem, 24, a student. “How can we trust them? If they were sincere about a vote, they would not ask us to leave the park. We will not leave until they declare the park is ours.” The referendum was also seen as an attempt by the government to confine the protests to the debate about the park, when the park controversy was in fact the catalyst for a broader outburst of civil unrest against what many Turks see as the increasing authoritarianism of Mr. Erdogan and his Justice and Development Party. I also invite you to click on the video .. left side of the article .. How the Protests Have Changed Turkey. I know Sebnem Arsu and she is being more frank here than she normally is.
